Comic book fans redirect Marvel villains' Hail Hydra website to Donald Trump's White House page

In 2011's Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the villainous organisation HYDRA was first introduced within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, some cheeky prankster has hijacked the fictional terrorist group's online URL and redirected it to Donald Trump's official White House homepage... Seriously, if you try to visit hail-hydra.com today (12 May), you're likely to end up reading about the 45th President of the United States instead.

In both the comics and the movies, HYDRA was founded by a cult of individuals who support authoritarianism and are hellbent on world domination. They're certainly not afraid to dabble in a bit of large-scale criminal activity to achieve their goal either.

While it originally came about under the leadership of exiled Inhuman Hive, it's most recent incarnation occurred during World War II in Germany. Throughout the Captain America story line, Hugo Weaving's Johann Schmidt aka big bad Red Skull Schmidt separated HYDRA from Nazi Germany to start his own conquest of the world. This was when HYDRA seemingly abandoned their theories of occultism in favour of draconian anti-freedom principles.

POTUS has been teasingly linked to HYDRA and its mantra for quite some time now. In Marvel sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier, a suited-and-booted follower of the organisation whispers 'Hail HYDRA' in a peer's ear; an awkward and somewhat humorous exchange that went on to become the subject of many memes starring Trump.

Doctoring photos of the President embracing with other politicians and officials, social media users in their droves shared their works online. However, he wasn't the only figure who became the target of the joke...

These instances don't mark the first time in recent years that Trump has been reluctantly drawn into the comic book world however. Last year, an issue of Image Comics's Spawn depicted an image of him decapitated, while Marvel Comics seemed to criticise the $1 million Trump donation handed out by Marvel Entertainment CEO Ike Perlmutter by re-drawing villain M.O.D.O.K. to bear a strong resemblance to the current US leader.
