Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber spotted looking glum a day after announcing split

Naomi Watts was pictured for the first since splitting from Liev Schreiber after 11 years together. The King Kong actress was spotted walking her dog in New York City on Monday (26 September).

According to The Daily Mail, the 47-year-old actress looked sad on her first outing after announcing their split. Watts was dressed in a white and red striped top, which she paired with skinny blue jeans and white sneakers. The 48-year-old actor was also spotted looking downcast while riding a bike in New York City. Schreiber sported denim jacket and a trucker cap during his outing.

The former couple's outings come just a day after the two announced their breakup.

"Over the past few months we've come to the conclusion that the best way forward for us as a family is to separate as a couple. It is with great love, respect, and friendship in our hearts that we look forward to raising our children together and exploring this new phase of our relationship," the former couple said in a joint statement.

"While we appreciate your curiosity and support, we ask the press to be mindful of our children and respect their right to privacy," the former pair added.

"They have been on the rocks for quite a while," a source told People.

In 2012, Watts told Easy Living Magazine that marriage wasn't a top priority for the couple. "We're very much together. We just don't have that certificate, and that's okay with both of us," she shared. "Maybe one day, we'll just wake up and go 'Hey, let's do this.' And maybe not."

The former couple share two children — sons Alexander (Sasha) Pete Schreiber aged nine, and Samuel Kai Schreiber, seven.
