5 Held, 2 Bailed After Newborn Baby Girl Found Dead With Stab Wounds at Sheffield Home
Police investigate tragic death of newborn in Holywell Heights, Sheffield

Seven people were arrested over the 'distressing' stabbing to death of a newborn baby in a home in Holywell Heights, Sheffield. Police were responding to a disturbance at a Sheffield home on Sunday, 30 August 2026. It was confirmed on Tuesday, 1 September, that the infant died from stab wounds.
'We recognise this is deeply distressing for those who would have loved to have a chance to love this baby girl, for the emergency services who responded and for the community who will inevitably be shocked by the incident,' Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward said.
Seven Arrested in Sheffield Baby Stabbing
Seven people were arrested by the South Yorkshire Police related to the incident. They were aged 15 to 38 years old. Two of them, aged 26 and 37, are currently out on bail.
Police are processing a warrant to keep the five arrested people in custody while the investigation continues. It is still unclear what happened in the house.
Officers were called to Holywell Heights in the Wincobank area after receiving reports regarding the baby's safety. Despite efforts by police and paramedics, the child died at the scene.
Woodward said the tragedy had deeply affected all involved: 'Everyone involved in responding to this tragedy—from the first officers and paramedics on the scene to the detectives now leading the investigation—has felt the profound impact of this investigation.'
He added: 'Our commitment to this little girl is unwavering. We will confront every difficult and distressing challenge and pursue every line of enquiry with determination and care to secure justice for her. We know the local community will hold her in their thoughts and support us as we work through this complex investigation.'
Police Appeal for Information
South Yorkshire Police have urged anyone with information to come forward online or call 101, quoting incident number 993 of August 30, 2026.

A neighbour told local media that the house where the baby was found was occupied by a man, a woman and three teenagers. They had not been aware that there was a baby or that the woman was pregnant. The family had been living in the three-bedroom property for about eight months. They were described as a quiet family that would occasionally host gatherings that did not disturb the community.
'We'd only hear the front door opening and closing, but they never gave us any concern,' the neighbour also said. They added they had not contacted the police previously as no unusual noise had come from the property. The neighbour expressed surprised at the arrival of multiple police officers and paramedics.
Public Outrage on Social Media
Social media users were in disbelief that anyone could ever stab a newborn. 'Sorry, did I just read that right? The baby girl died from stab wounds, meaning she had been stabbed to death. Sorry, I can't wrap my head around that. There is pure evil in this world,' one reacted to the news on Facebook.
Another said: 'Heartbreaking poor innocent baby would have been loved by someone unable to have children. How could someone do such a horrible thing?'
